He was one of "The pi'ipi'i Brothers" an essay about the history of Hawaiian royal taboo, Kahahana. His nickname, "Pi'ipi'i hahai moa", means: curly hair, chasing the chickens. This name alludes to the potential abilities of young Kahahana enimies is on the hunt for his warriors, like the moa (chicken, rooster) is sometimes figuratively to refer to a warrior.

I know Michael personally, and we met often with Tiki Bar, Polynesian Festival, Carnival of Cultures in Berlin  when  with the Pi'ipi'i brothers" played, and he can play almost all musical instrument ...

Led Kaapana mastery of stringed instruments, particularly slack key guitar, and his extraordinary baritone and leo ki `eki` e (falsetto) voice have made him a musical legend. He has exciting audiences for more than 40 years. With easy-going style and Kolohe (rascal) charm, he has built a loyal corps of LED heads from Brussels to his birthplace on the Big Iceland from Hawaii. Recognition by his peers earned four Grammy nominations in his own right and two victories on Slack Key Led compilations.

Like so many Hawaiians, Led grew up in a musical family. In the tiny black sand bay village of Kalapana, there were few distractions. "We had no electricity, no television, not even much radio," says Led. "So we entertained ourselves. It could be any house and everybody was playing music."

Often all the music was on a backyard party lasted, many of which for days. "People played in shifts, taking over when somebody went to sleep," Led recalls. "You'd fall asleep to the music, wake up .... and the music was still playing. That was the best alarm clock I ever had!"

It was at these family gatherings, which have learned in the old style of play led to imitate film, music, then. Chief among his teachers were his mother, Mama Tina Kaapana, and his uncle Fred Punahoa. "Even today, when I play, I still have pictures all the` ohana (family) are always together and share their songs and their aloha. "

Luky Linetti, alias Luca Bugno, with vocals and at the steel guitar;

Paul Fish, in the world Paolo Bortolomiol (unpronounceable south of Reggio Emilia),at the double bass;

Ato Kona, aka Renato Ardizzoni, at the drums;

And Steve Mai Tai, better known as Stefano Pagotto, at the guitar and ukulele; Pagotto, at the guitar and ukulele;

Exploiting an unlikely musical skill, shamelessly considering it "art", they transform themselves into: "I belli di Waikiki"

The total lack of entrepreneurial ability and show business know-how, notwithstanding to jam the stages of half the world have brought them all the way to the forefront of the small screen most of all thanks to the best of their artistic assets: "strike of luck"!

To summarize their "artistic" career, of course their pirogue landed also in the worst and infamous inns of the peninsula:

- in Senigallia, for Summer Jamboree 2001;

- in Germany, at Walldorf, for Rock'n'roll Weekender 2002;

- again in Senigallia, for Summer Jamboree 2002;

- in Florida and Texas for Aloha Tour 2003 (Hukilau Hawaiian and Polinesian Festival);

- between Rimini and Cortona for Gin Tonic Tour 2003;

- in Germany, in Munich for the International Rockabilly meeting 2003;

- and again in Senigallia, for the now not to be missed Hawaiian party at Summer Jamboree 2003;

- on national television, precisely Rai 2, part of the studio band for the show "I SOLATI L'altra faccia dell'isola" (parody of the successful show "Isola Dei Famosi").

Not to be missed in 2002 is the launch of the CD "Aloha" (title is purely fortuitous), produced by the teutonic Part Records.

For the year 2004 look for the "Aloha Tour 2004" in the United States and their appearance at the legendary "Rhythm Riot" in Sussex UK and the launch of their new CD, always rigorously Hawaiian style.

I Belli di Waikiki is waiting for your call...

Mauruuru roa......

In 2004 the Hulapunx surfed shopping for new Aloha Shirts a.s.o.
When they we´re caught by a Tsunami that washed them over to
St. Paulinesia in Hamburg/Germany. Left with no nothing they
started the Band HULAPUNK to earn the money for the Flight back
to Hawai´i.

Unfortunately most Natives of this strange country live on Welfare
and have nothing left to spend.
So they still stuck there and keep it going !
